Attitude of Gratitude

Even though my life these days has been in a whirlwind of mess I still have things to be grateful for. No matter what is going on we should always find something good out of what is going on around us. This past week I babysat my 2 month old grandson Noah while his mother worked. I had him from Sunday at 6p to Monday at noon. He is such a good baby. So adorable so loving and so full of smiles.

Also this past week from Wednesday afternoon to Saturday afternoon I had my great granddaughter Randi here with me. She was so happy to see me when we picked her up on Wednesday. She got all excited and ran up to my daughter (her NaNa) and me and just hung on to both of us so tight. She wanted to get in our car and go now, heck with getting her clothes, she wanted to go with us right now and was upset we had to go in to the house to get her things. But we left soon with her and she was good all week. We shopped, played, hugged, kissed and had so much fun.

Spending time with little ones warms my heart and helps to forget all the turmoil that may be going on around you. I look forward to the next time I can do this. Of course today I spent most of the day trying to get things done around here that I let go while the little ones were here. Those things can wait, but spending precious moments with my grandchildren outweighs the daily stuff.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy week and takes time to enjoy life as much as possible. I know I am going to try my hardest to no matter what is going on around me.

Attitude of Gratitude

This past week has been very trying for me. I have struggled in so many ways to find something, anything, any tiny little thing to be grateful for. But... I know there are many things I am and should be grateful for but some days it's just hard to see the forest for the trees. I am trying very hard to keep myself above the gloom that has been surrounding me.

I like butterflies, not really sure what it is about them, but they always make me smile. So this week as the rest of my life around me seems to be falling apart I decided to find some pictures of butterflies to make me smile. It was good for me to do this as I smiled a lot and even for a few short minutes things seemed to be right in the world around me.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead.

I am a Leo

My very good friend posted on her blog about Ordinary People and she posted about her being a Taurus and what a Taurus is all about. I found it very interesting and there are a lot of things in the description that describe her. I really enjoyed reading this and decided to check out the website she mentioned to see what it said about being a Leo, which I am. I found it very interesting and although there are a lot of things in there that describe me there were some things that I in no way see myself as. Here is what the website says about being a Leo.

**************************************

Get out your shades, because you’re going to need them. Leo walks in and the room lights up. Big, bold, loud and proud. That’s Leo. They love attention. They love applause. And bring a mirror too, because if you give Leo a little positive feedback and show them some heartfelt appreciation, you get paid back tenfold—Leo has a large, generous soul. The key to understanding Leo is this: it’s not so much about stroking their ego as it is about showing them love. Leos love to be loved. And they love to give love in return. What scares them the most is that they’re going to be rejected or misunderstood, so they’re really a little insecure underneath all that sunny bravado.

They just want to spread all that love around so that everybody gets some of the joy. Leo is the ultimate joy-giver. They like to see everybody happy and having a good time. And if that means spending money on them, so be it. Leos are lavish. They love retail. The original “material girl.” Or guy. Shallow? Superficial, you say? Yes, that’s the usual insult the lion takes on the chin. But it’s all for a good cause, because while Leo will never dive deep in the ocean of emotion, they will make everyone’s life more dazzling and more fun than before they roared in.

As for the cowardly lion, well, that’s the stuff of fiction, because Leo is courageous. They’ll stand up and speak out to see justice done. Real Leos live large and are not afraid to be out there, strutting their stuff. They love drama. They love the stage. They’re natural performers. Slap on the face paint and get out your glad rags because life really is a cabaret. Charismatic, passionate, social and sexual, Leo encourages others to greatness. I’m great, you should be great too, they say. That’s a very redeeming quality for Leo. What Leo needs in return though is to understand that they don’t need all that attention and the acknowledgment —they are great, just the way they are.

I hope you enjoyed reading this. I did try and put the website up on here so you can check out your astrological sign, but I couldn't add it. Not really sure why. But if you google Debra Silverman Astrology you should be able to find it. There are some videos and written comments about each sign. It really was fun to see.

Attitude of Gratitude

Happy Mothers Day!!!

I have had some amazing women in my life that
have molded me into the woman that I am today.
I am very grateful to my mother and all that
she has taught me and been there for me.
I am very grateful to my grandmothers who have
passed onto Heaven. But they both were
amazing women and taught me so much.
I am very grateful for the many Aunts that I have
had and have now.
All these women have been amazing and have had
so many influences in my life.
I hope that I have passed onto my own children the
best that I have and showed them as much
love as I possibly could.

I hope all mothers out there have a fantastic, wonderful
special Mothers Day!!!

Inexpensive remakes

I love making something new out of something used or old. I love shopping at Goodwill and seeing bargains I can find. My granddaughter Morgyn is going to go to college this coming fall for nursing. She bought herself a laptop for school and wanted some sort of carrying case for it. She wanted me to make her something so off to goodwill to see what we could find. She found a bedskirt with a flower ruffle on it that she really liked. And for $2 couldn't pass it up, so in the cart it went. I thought about how I was going to make this so it would be sturdy enough for her to carry to school. I measured and made a pattern from an ad that was in the newspaper. I made an extra pocket inside that she can carry the cords also for the laptop. I wanted the straps to be strong enough to not come apart and be able to hold the weight. I made 4 thicknesses thick and made them go all the way around from top to bottom and back up again. It really turned out nice and basically for less the $2 worth of material. I have lots left so will have to come up with another project to use it.

I was going through some of my craft/sewing stuff after I had finished with the bag and found some material that I have no clue as to where it came from or how long I have had it. But it was bright and springy so I made a skirt out of it for church the next day. It was just a basic A line skirt with an elastic waist. So no fuss no muss. I like it and it is very comfortable.

After I had finished with the bag and skirt on Sat I put all my sewing stuff away and sat down to the comp and was looking through some blogs. I found this cute fabric flower that someone had made and attached it to a shirt. I thought well why not make one to wear with my new skirt and just put a pin back on it. So at 1a I got some of my sewing stuff out and cut this easy flower out and finished it and wore it to church Sunday morning along with my new skirt. So in my way of thinking, I basically made a skirt and matching flower pin for $0, which is OK in my book. I think I see some more of these flowers in my future to wear with a lot of things and might even make some out of lace.

My mind is working overtime on things to make these days. I enjoy it, so while I am in the crafting/sewing mood I need to make as much as I can.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day and according to the weather man we are suppose to see high 70's over the weekend. I am so hoping they are right. I need some sunshine and warm weather.

Spring Decor

I have been hoping Spring and warm weather would hurry and get here in northern Indiana, but so far its a no go. Oh we have had little spurts of warm sunny weather but it doesn't last more then a day. I have been trying to add some bright Spring decor around my home to help in the dreary days that have been upon us. I am so tired of rain and I know it is good for the grass and flowers but come on, enough is enough. The next thing we may have to build around here is an Ark.

My mother, sister and I had gone to our favorite decorating/Vera Bradley store a few weeks back and got lots of inspiration to use around our homes. This store is very expensive to buy the decorations but its free for the ideas :) And boy do we soak up the inspiration. It is so much fun to go look and then come home and make. My mother is the flower arranger in our family and so I took over the containers I had (from goodwill, so it was inexpensive), some silk flowers I had, and voila she came up with some wonderful things for me to add to my home. I will be putting these things up in next few days after I take down all my Easter decorations.

I also made a Cathedral Window quilt table runner for the top of my hutch. This is a pattern I learned to make years ago at a church activity. It is a very easy craft to make. Its also one of those crafts you can do piece by piece and then put it all together. So I consider that a good thing as I don't always have a chunk of time to do something, so making something in little increments is a good thing for me.

I also have made a skirt for me and a computer bag for my granddaughter to use for when she heads to college this next fall. I will post them later after I get all the pics taken. I have lots of ideas running around in my head and I just need to implement them and get things started. I am getting excited about these projects.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week and learns to love the little things. Take time to enjoy what makes you happy.
